North Shore LightHouse

Nested on thousands of acres of wild Hawaiian land, these properties are a love story to the islands. Together, we refreshed each room with intention and care, showcasing these homeowners’ collections from around the globe and curating new art from the islands to make it finally feel like home.

  • Originally designed by an expert and executed by a skilled local builder, the bones of this home were stunning. Yet the interiors were never finished, leaving spaces that lacked the comfort and soul these homeowners envisioned.

After touring another property I’d designed on the island, the homeowners reached out to see if I could help.

Avid travelers, they’d collected beautiful pieces over the years. Our goal was to create layered spaces that honored this collection while tying the home back to the beautiful island of Kauai and her people.

Knowing we wouldn’t find the right pieces in retail stores, we partnered with a local art dealer who connected us with Hawaiian makers. After interviewing us for our spiritual intentions, these artisans agreed to create custom pieces for our project.

The built-ins in the guest house — originally empty — now house custom wooden sculptures, hand carved by local artisans to perfectly fit the niches above the TV. On the left, a whale vertebrae perches above glass vessels filled with shells and handmade wooden bowls.

Throughout the home, we re-envisioned the textiles from upholstery to drapery, creating a palette that equally suited their Hawaiian location and their art from around the globe.

Together, these textiles tie together lamps from Africa, a wooden bowl of Shiva Lingams — sacred stones from India’s Narmada River — and more, creating a cohesive, global home that’s welcoming, rich, and calm.

On the adjacent JKR Ranch, we took a similar approach — this time, fusing Hawaii’s paniolo era with the American west.
